and family parties: A traditional music dance night is a great mixer, ideal for weddings and family events. It brings all ages together in group and couple dances, and those who don't want to dance can have an enjoyable time watching, or listening to the lively foot-tapping music while catching up on all the family news Gatherings, Merry Neets and Hops: The English Lake District was once famous for its all-night dance gatherings, when some of the fittest countrymen were reputed to go straight from the dancing to work next day, while others arrived home with the milk. Below are some of the social dance events, with their Cumbrian dialect names, that the old country fiddlers would play for. Nowadays these events are simply classed as ceilidhs or barn dances - and are more likely to end before midnight. |
